The Irish Minifootball Association (IMA) is delighted to announce that it will soon be conducting trials to find the players who will make up the first Irish Minifootball Team.

The team will compete at the miniEURO2013 tournament to be held in a major European City later in the year and will mark the first time that Ireland has been represented.

Declan Ford, Head of the Irish Minifootball Association, said he was very excited to be giving players the chance to represent their country: “The concept of International Minifootball is fairly new,” he said. “But it is growing all the time. The first ever miniEURO was held in Chisinau, the Moldavian capital city, where it was watched by crowds of over 3000, and shown on National TV. “

Declan himself was at the tournament last September, having been invited by the European Minifootball Association and admits it has been a burning desire of his to get an Ireland team in the tournament this time around. “It was a fantastic event, and I came away determined that we should have an Irish presence there in the future. There are some magnificent soccer players in this country and we will be able to get a very competitive team together.”

The exact details of the trials will be revealed in due course, but there is a firm commitment from the IMA to have a Irish team competing in the tournament in 2013.

Last year’s competition was won by Romania (who are pictured right).
