MiniEURO: Ready To Go!

Friday October 4, 2013 at 1:33pm

One week from today, Ireland will play their first matches at the miniEURO 2013 event in Crete. It has long been promised to be quite the occasion! And as these pictures show, the setting is perfect!

The state of the art surface was laid on the picturesque Rethmyno City beach on Wednesday, the stands are being erected over the weekend, and the whole thing is ready for the big kick off next Thursday. Thanos Papadopoulos, of the Euro Minifootball Federation, who is overseeing the organisation of the tournament, said: “We have not seen anything of the football itself yet, but the plan becomes true day by day.

“Probably the most romantic minifootball pitch with the most fantastic view of the history in the sport, only 3-4 meters by the sea, is being built in Greece for the miniEURO 2013”

The first game for the Irish boys sees us take on last season's hosts Moldova before we take on last year's runners up Montenegro and Israel in the remaining group games.
