Ireland Chance For Local Footballers

Local soccer players will be given the chance to pull on the green of Ireland thanks to a unique event which takes place next weekend.

The Ireland 6 a side soccer championships is happening at Limerick University on July 12th and players that impress on the day could be in line for the opportunity of a lifetime. Not only will players have the chance to represent the town on the national stage – and receive six free kits just for joining, they could be in line for some incredible experiences.

The winning side will receive a giant silver trophy worth €5000, but any player who catches the eye will be given the opportunity to go to Israel, all expenses paid, to play in the European 6 a side soccer championships this November.

This unbelievable opportunity comes about because the Irish Minifootball Association (IMA) – who are organising the Limerick event - holds the licence to run the official Ireland 6 a side team. The IMA will be sending a team over to compete in the third of these annual events, to be held in the beautiful Israeli coastal town of Eilat, with the team looking to improve on last year’s showing. In 2013 the Irish side performed at this level for the first time, acquitting themselves well in the group games, but losing out.

It is hoped that with the new players involved this time – and those that are selected after impressing at the championships – the team will be able to perform better. There is still time for teams to register for the event – which begins at 2-30pm – the cost is just €50 per team. To register for the event teams need to head to
